The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is the most important museum dedicated to 20th century European and American art in Italy. Created by the American heiress Peggy Guggenheim, it is housed in the Palazzo Venier dei Leoni overlooking the Grand Canal in Venice, which was also her home for three decades. Inaugurated in 1980, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection is owned by Solomon R. Guggenheim, who runs the museum of the same name in New York and participates in the programming of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.
